The Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting in Stuttgart focused on the importance of
attaining stability within the Mediterranean area. To this end, the
Ministers defined a strategy to strengthen international co-operation and
political discourse in order to address common security concerns. At this
meeting, the elaboration of a ‘Euro-Mediterranean Charter for Peace and
Stability’ was discussed, aimed at ensuring political dialogue, as well as the
progressive development of regional co-operation and preventive diplomacy.
The Ministers decided to further pursue political dialogue on the issues
mentioned in the first chapter of the Barcelona Declaration (political and
security collaboration), as well as the project of establishing a
Euro-Mediterranean joint action system for disaster prevention, adequate
management of migration processes, the fight against terrorism and organised
crime, and to combat drugs trafficking.
