In the French city of Marseilles, the Foreign Affairs Ministers discussed the
Middle East situation and political collaboration on security matters.
Regarding economic and trade issues, they reaffirmed the objective of creating
a free-trade area between the European Union and its Mediterranean
partners. This initiative would require signing and ratifying association
agreements with the European Union. Lastly, the participants dealt
with financial co-operation, and welcomed improvements to the MEDA Regulation
with a view to simplifying it and accelerating its procedures.
