The 7th Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference, held in Luxembourg on 30th
and 31st May 2005, enabled the participating government representatives to
discuss the major issues affecting the development of the Euro-Mediterranean
partnership. This Conference laid the groundwork for the
Euro-Mediterranean Summit to be held in Barcelona on 27th and 28th November (to
commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Barcelona Process), as well as
establishing the political content of the Year of the Mediterranean, held
throughout 2005.
As at previous ministerial conferences, at this meeting the Foreign Affairs
Ministers of Partnership countries established new orientations in
Euro-Mediterranean policy, highlighting the importance of the following:
· Support the resolution of the principal conflicts and problems in the
Euro-Mediterranean area affecting peace, security, stability, good government,
and the consolidation of democracy
· Promote new institutional reforms and working methods oriented towards
sustainable economic development
· Promote educational and socio-cultural exchanges
· Reinforce public policies aimed at managing issues involving justice,
security, migratory movements, and social integration.
